Forced regeneration

Regeneration of the particle emission filter is a function that can be started with the diagnostic equipment. This function burns particles present in the particle emission filter in order to clean it. Some driving conditions are unfavourable to automatic regeneration, e.g. urban driving. In these cases the forced regeneration procedure can be used to avoid clogging of the particle emission filter.
Observe:
This operation results in very high exhaust temperatures. Perform the operation outdoors and without exhaust gas extraction take-off.
The regeneration will be performed in three steps as follows:
  1. Engine idling.
  2. The first regeneration phase lasts for approx. 2 minutes and the engine speed will increase to 3000 rpm.
  3. The regeneration is stopped and the engine should be turned off for 35 minutes.
  4. The second regeneration phase lasts for approx. 2 minutes and the engine speed will increase to 3000 rpm.
  5. The regeneration is stopped and the engine should be turned off for 35 minutes.
  6. The third regeneration phase lasts until the function is complete.
Test prerequisites:
Procedure:
  1. Start the function.
  2. Step 1.
  3. A dialogue box presents current coolant temperature. The temperature must exceed 70 °C, for regeneration to start.
  4. Press "OK" to continue.
  5. A dialogue box presents: "Regeneration in progress". This phase lasts for approx. 2 minutes and the engine speed will increase to 3000 rpm.
  6. Turn the ignition off. The engine should then be turned off for 35 minutes.
  7. Step 2.
  8. Start the engine and press "OK".
  9. A dialogue box presents current coolant temperature. The temperature must exceed 70 °C, for regeneration to start.
  10. Press "OK" to continue.
  11. A dialogue box presents: "Regeneration in progress". This phase lasts for approx. 2 minutes and the engine speed will increase to 3000 rpm.
  12. Turn the ignition off. The engine should then be turned off for 35 minutes.
  13. Step 3.
  14. Start the engine and press "OK".
  15. A dialogue box presents current coolant temperature. The temperature must exceed 70 °C, for regeneration to start.
  16. Press "OK" to continue.
  17. A dialogue box presents: "Regeneration in progress". The engine speed will increase to 3000 rpm and lasts until the regeneration is complete, max. 15 minutes.
  18. A dialog box will be presented when the regeneration is complete.
